Volunteer FAQs
Do I have to be a patient or a family member of a patient to volunteer?

While some volunteer roles require that you be a patient or their family member, we do have opportunities for friends and supporters to share their time and talents.

What kind of time commitment is required of IDF volunteers?

Each volunteer activity requires a different level of commitment. We will work with you to find a volunteer opportunity that can fit both your schedule and our program needs. Please discuss time commitments and flexibility with the Volunteer Development Manager if you have questions about a specific volunteer role.

What opportunities are available for IDF volunteers?

There are many exciting activities for volunteers at IDF! Our organization is constantly growing, and with our growth is the need for passionate volunteers to help us achieve our mission. Take a look at some of our current opportunities to donate your time!

Who is eligible to volunteer?

Patients. Family Members. Friends. Our doors are open to anyone who wants to lend a hand and assist us in enriching the lives of the people we serve. Volunteers must be positive, outgoing, and passionate about IDF and our mission. Depending on the volunteer role, there may be additional criteria that you must meet in order to be eligible for a particular volunteer position.

Is there an age requirement to volunteer?

Many volunteer roles require that you be at least 18 years of age. While limited, there are a few volunteer activities that individuals under 18 years old can assist with. Please discuss with the Volunteer Development Manager if you questions about a specific volunteer role.

Are there any special requirements to volunteer with IDF?

Depending on your role, there may be requests for other information, such as a writing sample, interview, or a certification, to help determine a role that best fits your talents. The position description will let you know what is needed for the role that you are interested in. Also, in order to protect and provide the best service to the people we serve, many IDF volunteer roles will require interested volunteers to submit to a background check prior to being assigned a volunteer position. Volunteers who are participating in special one-time or group activities, may be exempt from background check requirements. If you have questions about the background check, please contact the Volunteer Development Manager.
